From the airport (BCN)
Barcelona–El Prat has two terminals, T1 and T2, and how you get into the city varies a bit by which one you land in. Three realistic options:
- Aerobús — a dedicated express bus to Plaça Catalunya, roughly 35–40 minutes, running frequently from both terminals. The simplest option for most visitors, especially with luggage.
- R2 Nord train (Rodalies) — connects from T2 only (not T1) to Barcelona Sants and other central stations, cheaper than the Aerobús but requires a transfer if you land at T1.
- Taxi — a fixed-rate fare applies from the airport to anywhere within the city, posted at taxi ranks; convenient with heavy luggage or a late arrival, at a real premium over the bus or train.
From other cities by train
Barcelona Sants is the main long-distance station, with high-speed AVE service from Madrid (around 2.5 hours) and connections from southern France. Book AVE tickets ahead in peak periods — walk-up fares on the day are usually available but at a higher price than advance booking.
From the cruise terminal
Barcelona's cruise port sits close to the base of Montjuïc, an easy taxi ride or a shuttle bus into the center — walking is possible but longer than it looks on a port map, especially with luggage. Check which specific terminal your ship docks at, as the port has several spread along the waterfront.
From within Europe more broadly
Low-cost carriers serve Barcelona from most major European cities, often landing at T2 rather than T1 — worth checking before you plan your airport transfer, since it changes which train option is available to you.
